Summer Starr Announces Her Candidacy for Upcountry State Legislature Seat Olinda, HI - Today, Summer Starr has officially announced her candidacy to represent District 12 in the Hawaii State Legislature. Her campaign has kicked off with the unveiling of her campaign website: www.electsummer.com.
"The status quo is not acceptable any more. Therefore I am offering my vision and expertise to the people of Upcountry Maui. Together, we will create jobs, protect our native culture and manage our land and water in a fair and equitable manner," Starr said. Running as a Democrat, Starr will have to face incumbent Kyle Yamashita in the September 20th primary. She has already begun campaigning in the district.
Starr attended Makawao Elementary School, Seabury Hall High School, Maui Community College and the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. She is running on a platform of sustainability and smart growth. "I am running because we deserve an Upcountry that benefits from the wonders of the 21st century but does not lose its old, paniolo town essence," said Starr.
"You have to provide results. Waving at people at the side of the road is nice, but look at what's happening, and not happening, to Upcountry Maui," added Campaign Manager, Dave Atias, "This is how we make our representatives accountable. When it's business as usual, and that business is the opposite of what the people want, we vote them out. That's why Summer is running and that's why she is going to be the next Representative of Upcountry Maui."
Starr also said, " I am going to knock on as many doors as possible until the election. And when elected, I will continue to have the same kind of contact with my Upcountry neighbors. I truly have a vested interest in Upcountry and the community that makes it so unique. I was born here. These are the people I grew up with. This is the community that shaped who I am today and it is Upcountry where I will stay." For more information in Summer Starr's campaign, visit www.electsummer.com or call 808-572-IMUA (4682).
